Library Survey

And many thanks to everyone who handed in the Uffculme Library survey forms that were in Spotlight a couple of months ago. We had 30 replies from every age group, from under 10 to over 70. As well as borrowing books, it is good to see that people use the Library to reserve books (or pick up books reserved online), to return books borrowed from other Devon libraries, to find out information, to borrow other items such as CDs or DVDs, to use the computer, and for quiet reading.

Unsurprisingly, people would like the Library to be open for longer hours (currently 6 hours a week), and they would also like there to be a wider choice of books, although of course there are space limitations. If additional hours were possible – and it is a big if – then Saturday afternoons or weekday evenings would be the preferred options. The most popular additional provision would be a service to deliver books to those who find it difficult to get to the Library; additional activities for children, and help with computer use, were also requested. A number took the opportunity to express their appreciation of Uffculme Library, and of the friendly and helpful library staff.

Uffculme Library Friends, with Devon Libraries and the local library staff, will now look in detail at the survey responses, to see whether changes can be made.
